Black gel colorant
The deep black Wilton signature, essential for graphic decorations.
The Black Wilton gel colorant is the reference for obtaining an intense black without turning gray. Its formulation with vegetable charcoal (E153) guarantees maximum opacity with just a few tips, on fondant, buttercream, or royal icing.
Particularly useful for graphic outlines, fine lettering, Halloween patterns, eyes and mouths on fondant figurines, this black retains its depth without altering the texture of the preparation.

Frequently asked questions
Is Wilton colorant suitable for coloring chocolate?
No. Wilton gel colorants are water-based, incompatible with chocolate. To color chocolate or ganache, use fat-soluble colorants.
How many pots for a 3-tier wedding cake?
A 28 g Wilton pot covers about 8 to 10 kg of sugar paste or 5 to 7 kg of buttercream depending on the desired intensity. One pot is enough for most 3-tier wedding cakes.
Does the color remain stable over time?
Yes, on fondant and sugar paste the color lasts several weeks away from light. On buttercream and cream, keep 5 to 7 days refrigerated.
How to get a lighter or darker shade?
To lighten: add white (extra white fondant) or reduce the amount. To darken: add an extra half tip and let rest 30 min before judging.
Black tip?
Black intensifies after resting 30 min: dose slightly below the desired shade.
