Colour Mill

Colour activator - Colour Mill Booster 100 ml

Colour activator to intensify Colour Mill colourings, Pro 100 ml size

The Colour Mill Booster Activator is a transparent additive that multiplies the intensity of other Colour Mill colourings. Added at a rate of 1 drop for every 3 to 4 drops of colouring, it achieves bright, saturated shades more quickly without changing the texture of the preparation.

Like the rest of the Colour Mill range, the Booster is designed for fat-based products (white chocolate, ganache, buttercream, fondant). The 100 ml bottle is intended for boutique bakeries with regular production, so you never run out of activator during peak order season.

When to use the Booster

5 use cases where the activator saves time and colouring:

  • Intensification of bright shades (Hot Pink, Fuchsia, Red, Cobalt)
  • Saturation of dark colours (Black, Burgundy, Forest)
  • Fat-based preparations requiring a vibrant shade
  • High-colour-saturation event baking
  • Colouring savings for large-scale boutique production

Features

  • Brand: Colour Mill (Australia)
  • Type: Colour activator (transparent, with no colour of its own)
  • Packaging: 100 ml soft squeeze dropper bottle
  • Function: Intensifies other Colour Mill colourings
  • Typical dosage: 1 drop of Booster for 3 to 4 drops of colouring
  • Compatible bases: Melted chocolate, ganache, buttercream, icings, fondant
  • Heat resistance: Stable up to 180°C

Instructions for use

  1. Preparing the base: bring the fat-based mixture (white chocolate, ganache, buttercream) to 25–30°C. Above 35°C, some pigments may lose intensity.
  2. Initial dosage: shake the bottle for 10 seconds. Add 2 to 4 drops per 250 g of mixture for pastel shades, 6 to 10 drops for vibrant shades, and 15 to 25 drops for dark shades.
  3. Mixing: whisk with a stand mixer or silicone spatula for 30 to 60 seconds to distribute the color evenly.
  4. Resting and stabilization: leave to rest for 30 minutes at room temperature under cling film in direct contact with the surface. The shade develops and fully reveals itself while resting.
  5. Adjust if necessary: if the shade is too pale, add 1 to 3 additional drops and remix. Proceed in increments to avoid oversaturation.

Ingredients and compliance

Composition: food-grade vegetable oil base and food coloring pigments compliant with European regulations (EU 1333/2008).

Allergens: no major allergens declared. Gluten-free, lactose-free, egg-free, peanut-free, and soy-free. Suitable for vegetarian and vegan diets.

Storage

  • Keep the bottle closed in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
  • Ideal storage temperature: between 15 and 22°C.
  • Slight pigment/oil separation is normal after prolonged storage: shake for 10 seconds before use.
  • Once opened, use within 12 months to preserve maximum pigment intensity.

Patissland Tip – Booster

Booster is not a coloring agent: it is a transparent activator that boosts the intensity of other Colour Mill coloring agents. Add 1 drop of Booster for every 3–4 drops of coloring agent to achieve vibrant shades more quickly. Particularly effective on reds, fuchsia, hot pink, and blacks, which normally require a lot of product. Real savings for production businesses.

Frequently asked questions

From what volume of activity is the 100 ml size profitable?

The 100 ml size becomes worthwhile at around 5 colored orders per week. To get started or simply test a shade, the 20 ml size (see above) is still more suitable.

How many drops for 250 g of buttercream?

For pastel shades: 2 to 4 drops. For bright shades: 5 to 10 drops. For dark shades: 12 to 20 drops. Always start with less and gradually adjust; it is easier to intensify a color than to lighten it.

Does Colour Mill coloring withstand baking?

Yes, Colour Mill is one of the few oil-soluble colorings to retain its intensity after baking at temperatures of up to 180°C. This property sets it apart from classic liquid colorings, which lighten in the oven.

Can Colour Mill be used on water-based mixtures (royal icing, syrup)?

No, Colour Mill oil-soluble coloring is designed for fat-based mixtures: melted chocolate, ganache, buttercream, and fondant. For water-based mixtures, use the Colour Mill water-soluble range.

Does the bottle have a built-in dropper?

Yes, the 100 ml Colour Mill bottle also has a built-in dropper opening in the soft cap, despite its larger capacity. A simple squeeze dispenses one precise drop.
