Powder Colour - Shimmer Dust Ruby Red
Pearlescent powder with a metallic effect, deep ruby red
Shimmer Dust Ruby Red is a pearlescent food powder by Rainbow Dust, in a deep ruby red with metallic highlights. Its micronised structure reflects light evenly, creating a stable glossy finish that does not deteriorate over time. Apply it dry with a brush to firm surfaces, or dilute it in neutral food-grade alcohol for edible painting with crisp lines.

Uses
- Valentine's Day cakes and macarons: sugar-paste hearts, lettering and desserts for two, enhanced by the depth of ruby red.
- Christmas logs and decorations: blown chocolate baubles, shortbread biscuits and Advent wreaths, combined with a gold or copper base.
- Hyper-realistic red fruits in sugar paste: pomegranates, cherries, strawberries and raspberries, for a jewellery-like finish.
- Tempered dark chocolate: high-gloss lacquered effect on moulded chocolates, sculptural Easter eggs or decorative bars.
Please note: never dilute with water, as it makes the pigment grainy and dulls the metallic effect: use only neutral food-grade alcohol. On buttercream or fresh icing, tap the brush above the piece rather than brushing directly, to prevent clumps.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Shimmer Dust and a classic powder colouring?
Shimmer Dust is a finishing powder with a pearlescent metallic effect, intended for the surface of an already coloured base. A classic powder colouring is used to tint the mixture itself (paste, chocolate or cream). The two are complementary.
Does Ruby Red work on white fondant, or do I need red fondant?
Both are possible. On white fondant, the result is a luminous, delicate ruby red. On red or burgundy fondant, the effect is deeper and more jewellery-like.
How many pieces can one jar decorate?
The powder is highly concentrated: when used properly, one jar can decorate the equivalent of 10 to 15 large pieces, such as a multi-tiered wedding cake.
