Azucren A4 Sugar Sheets, pack of 25 sheets for high-definition edible printing

Get sharp and vibrant edible prints with Azucren sugar sheets, specially designed for food ink printers. Flexible, durable, and with a smooth and glossy surface, these sheets guarantee professional print quality for all your cake decorations, personalized cupcakes, photo cookies, and event centerpieces. Standard DIN A4 format (21 × 29.7 cm) compatible with all food printers on the market.

At Patissland, these Azucren sugar sheets are THE reference for pastry chefs and cake designers who want to reproduce personalized photos, company logos, or detailed patterns on their cakes. Unlike classic wafer paper (starch-based), Azucren sugar sheets have a specific composition rich in sugar and maltodextrin that provides a glossy surface and exceptional color reproduction, ideal for realistic photo prints. Pack of 25 sheets, intermediate size ideal for regular use.

Detailed technical specifications

Pack of 25 A4 sheets, standard size for regular use

Packaging: box of 25 individual sheets

Format: standard DIN A4 (210 × 297 mm)

Brand: Azucren Creative Pastry, Spain

Thickness: medium, ideal for high-definition prints

The pack of 25 sheets is sized for regular use (several custom orders per month). Covers about 30 to 50 orders depending on the size of the printed photos and optimization of placement on the A4 sheet (you can print several small photos on one sheet to optimize).

Smooth and glossy surface for vibrant prints

The major advantage of Azucren sugar sheets is their smooth and glossy surface which provides:

Exceptional color reproduction, printed colors are vibrant, true to the digital original, without shift or fading

Sharpness of details, ideal for high-definition photos, portraits, logos with small text, complex patterns

"Photo quality" effect on cake, the result approaches that of a real photo paper print, leaving a strong impression on customers

This rendering quality is significantly superior to classic wafer paper (starch-based), which produces a more matte and less vibrant print. For high-end orders with strong visual requirements, sugar sheets are essential.

Specific sugar-rich composition

Technical composition of Azucren sugar sheets:

Fillers (E1422, E1412) 46%, structural base

Maltodextrin 14%, provides cohesion and shine

Humectant (E422 glycerol) 11%, maintains flexibility

Water 9%

Sugar 7%, provides a slightly sweet taste and smooth surface

Food coloring (E170) 5%, for opaque whiteness

Dextrose 5%

Stabilizers, emulsifiers, preservative, acidity regulator, artificial flavors

This composition is technically very different from wafer paper (which is based only on potato starch + water). This explains the difference in visual and tactile appearance between the two types of media.

Food printer compatibility

Azucren sugar sheets are compatible with all food printers on the market (models derived from Canon, Epson, etc., adapted for food use with edible inks). The calibrated thickness passes easily through feed rollers. The matte side (printing side) is clearly marked to avoid incorrect insertion.

Important, you must use a dedicated food printer with certified edible inks. A standard office printer with regular inks CANNOT be used (non-edible toxic inks).

Easy sheet separation

The sheets are individually separated by a thin protective layer (often a plastic film or interleaving paper) that prevents the sheets from sticking together due to their slightly sticky surface (caused by the sugar + maltodextrin composition). This way, you can take out one sheet at a time for use, without the risk of accidentally tearing several sheets together.

Optimal flexibility, easy handling and cutting

Azucren sugar sheets have optimal flexibility for handling, neither too rigid (which would break at the slightest bend) nor too soft (which would deform under the weight of their own printed image). This flexibility allows:

Easy cutting with scissors, precision cutter, or punchers

Application on slightly curved surfaces (domed cupcakes, slightly rounded cake tops)

Tear-free handling during transport to the cake

Compliance with European standards

Azucren sugar sheets comply with all current European food standards. All listed ingredients (E1422, E1412, E422, E170, E406i, E414, E451, E435, E415, E202, E330) are authorized and certified food additives. The product is suitable for professional pastry use, catering, and direct consumer sales.

Sugar Sheets vs Wafer Paper, two different media

What is the difference between sugar sheets and wafer paper?

These two edible printing media are technically different and do not have the same finish:

Sugar Sheets (this product)

Composition, sugar + maltodextrin + fillers + dextrose + humectants

Surface, smooth and shiny

Print finish, vibrant colors, realistic photo

Taste, slightly sweet

Adhesion, requires moistening

Ideal use, high-definition photos, detailed logos

Wafer Paper (other Patissland sheets)

Composition, potato starch + water (sometimes enriched)

Surface, matte or semi-matte, rougher

Print finish, more matte, softer colors

Taste, neutral

Adhesion, can be used dry or wet

Ideal use, airy flowers, veils, textured decorations

Both products are complementary, not interchangeable. Many professionals have both depending on orders.

When to choose sugar sheets rather than wafer paper?

Favor Azucren sugar sheets for:

High-definition custom photos, the vibrant finish gives a "photo paper" effect on the cake

Detailed company logos, small characters and fine details stand out clearly

Portraits of people, skin tones and delicate facial shades are better rendered

Top decorative plaques that must catch the eye with a visual "wow" effect

High-end orders where print quality is a decisive criterion

When to prefer classic wafer paper?

Prefer wafer paper (Squires Kitchen, Decora, Wafer Paper Azucren) for:

Airy decorations like edible flowers, feathers, airy veils

Textured decorations where the matte side blends better into a "natural" cake design creation

Very strict sugar-free diets (sugar sheets contain sugar)

Very fine and complex cutouts where the greater rigidity of wafer paper is useful

Event and corporate decorative plaques

For corporate events (product launches, anniversaries, year-end parties), print the company logo on a full Azucren A4 sugar sheet, then place it on top of the corporate cake. This creates a flawless professional visual effect that highlights both the pastry order and the company’s identity. Highly sought after in the premium event segment and demanding corporate orders.

Custom cake design and bespoke creations

Cake designers use sugar sheets for ambitious custom creations, designs created with graphic software then printed in vibrant colors, custom illustrations for specific clients, and edible reproductions of artworks. Photo-quality printing enables creations that wouldn’t be possible with other edible media.

Usage and application tips

Step 1, printing on the matte side

Identify the matte side of the sheet (the other side is usually shinier or coated with a thin protective film). ALWAYS print on the matte side, as it properly absorbs edible inks and ensures sharp image quality. Use your dedicated food printer with certified edible inks. Set the print quality to maximum (photo mode or high quality) to fully exploit the smooth surface's potential.

Step 2, post-print drying

After printing, let the sheet dry flat for a few minutes on a clean surface before handling. This allows the inks to set well into the sugar layer. Avoid touching the printed area during this drying, as your fingers could leave marks or cause the still-wet colors to run.

Step 3, application on a dry and flat surface

Apply the sheet on a dry and flat surface, ideally:

Recently smoothed fondant, top level for adhesion and visual effect

Marzipan, for traditional recipes with a vintage look

Smoothed ganache, the natural moisture of the ganache helps adhesion

Dried royal icing, for decorated cookies

Avoid very moist surfaces (fresh whipped cream, wet tart bases, fresh fruit) that could soak the sugar sheet and cause the print to run.

Step 4, very light moistening for adhesion

For perfect adhesion, very lightly moisten the underside of the sheet with a food-safe brush dipped in:

Pure water

Light syrup (sugar + water)

Piping gel (very little, in touches)

Diluted glucose

Important, "very lightly" is the key phrase. Too much moisture would melt the sugar on the sheet and distort the print. A few drops with a brush are more than enough to activate the natural adhesion of the sugar layer when in contact with the cake base.

Last-minute application tip

Like wafer paper, sugar sheets are sensitive to prolonged humidity. Place your printed sheet on the cake no later than 2 to 3 hours before serving, ideally within the hour before guests arrive. If you place it too early (the day before), the cake's ambient humidity can start to soak the sheet and cause the printed colors to run. For wedding cakes delivered the day before, attach the sugar sheet the morning of the event.

Storage and preservation

Optimal storage conditions

To preserve the flexibility and flatness of the sheets, store the batch:

In a dry and temperate place, ideal temperature between 15 and 20°C

Protected from direct sunlight (which could yellow the sheets or discolor the opaque white)

Protected from heat (above 25°C, the sugar can start to become sticky)

Protected from ambient humidity (the sheets would become brittle or sticky to each other)

Avoid damp cellars, cupboards near the oven or dishwasher, and areas exposed to sudden temperature changes.

Reseal the packaging after each use

ALWAYS reseal the original airtight packaging after each use. This is the golden rule to preserve the quality of unused sheets. If the original packaging is damaged, transfer the batch to a replacement airtight box or a food zip-lock bag with maximum air extraction. A sheet exposed to ambient air for several days begins to lose its flexibility and quality.

Shelf life and signs of degradation

Properly stored in their sealed airtight packaging, Azucren sugar sheets retain all their properties for several months. Check the best before date indicated on the packaging. Signs that your sheets have absorbed too much moisture or aged:

Soft or sticky texture to the touch

Warped or wavy edges

Abnormal adhesion between sheets despite the protective layer

Progressive yellowing of the original white color

If you notice these signs, use the sheets quickly (print quality may be affected but the product remains usable) or replace with a new batch for demanding premium orders.

Patissland complementary products

Edible inks for dedicated printer

To print these Azucren sugar sheets, you need dedicated edible inks. Patissland offers food ink cartridges compatible with standard food printers. Available colors generally cover the CMYK palette (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) which allows reproducing all colors visible to the eye. NEVER use standard office inks, which are toxic and non-edible.

Classic wafer paper for airy decorations

In addition to the glossy sugar sheets (this sheet), Patissland offers several ranges of wafer paper made from potato starch, ideal for airy decorations (flowers, feathers, sails), Squires Kitchen UK for traditional British cake design, Decora Italy white or colored, Azucren Wafer Paper 50 sheets for semi-volume professionals. Choose according to the desired visual effect, photo gloss (sugar sheets) or matte textured (wafer paper).

Azucren fondant for brand consistency

For brand consistency on your premium orders, combine Azucren sugar sheets with the Azucren Elite fondant offered by Patissland. The ideal combination: smooth the cake with well-stretched white Azucren fondant, place the printed Azucren sugar sheet on top, adhesion is excellent between supports of the same brand thanks to compatible compositions.

Dekora themed wafer discs

For themed children's birthdays without photo personalization (football, princesses, cartoons), Patissland offers the Dekora Spain range with pre-printed Ø 20 cm discs ready to use. An express alternative solution to personalized printing for standard themed orders. Azucren sugar sheets are preferred for true custom personalizations (photos, logos, unique designs).

Cake drums for final presentation

To present your personalized cake with Azucren photo print, place it on a 12 mm cake drum which provides a complete visual base and facilitates transport to the event location. White drum for contemporary cake design, silver drum for weddings and formal events, depending on the order context.

Cake boxes with window for enhanced delivery

To deliver a personalized cake with printed photo, Patissland offers large format cake boxes with transparent window that allow the end customer to see the personalized photo print through the window upon receipt, without handling. A "gift enhanced" effect that impresses from delivery and confirms the quality of the service.

Frequently asked questions

Are sugar sheets really edible?

Yes, absolutely. Azucren sugar sheets are fully edible, all ingredients used are authorized food additives certified compliant with European standards. When tasting, the sheet quickly dissolves in the mouth upon contact with saliva, releasing a slightly sweet taste that pairs perfectly with the cake. No risk for children or adults consuming their portion.

Is it suitable for special diets?

Depending on the diets:

Strict sugar-free diets, NO, sugar sheets contain sugar as the main surface ingredient. Prefer classic wafer paper (starch + water) for these diets

Gluten-free diet, YES, contains no gluten

Vegan diet, to be checked case by case depending on the food colorings used

Egg-free, milk-free diet, YES

For very strict diets or specific allergies, check the full list of ingredients on the packaging before use.

How many photos can be printed on an A4 sheet?

It depends on the size of the photos:

A large A4 photo for a whole cake (top 20 cm), 1 per sheet

Photo format cupcake (Ø 5 cm), 12 to 16 photos per A4 sheet with optimized layout

Cookie-sized photos (Ø 6-8 cm), 8 to 10 photos per sheet

Macaron-sized photos (Ø 4 cm), 20 to 25 photos per sheet

Small custom designs (initials, stars), up to 50 per sheet

Optimize your printing software to arrange multiple photos in a tight grid on the A4 sheet, a significant saving for batch production.

Can you print with a standard desktop printer?

NO, absolutely not. Standard desktop printers use NON-EDIBLE inks based on toxic chemical solvents. Printing sugar sheets with these inks would make the product unsafe for consumption. To print on Azucren sugar sheets, you MUST use a dedicated food printer with certified edible inks. Patissland offers the complete edible printing range (printers, inks, media).

How to fix the sheet on the cake without soaking it?

The trick: very little moisture, just enough to activate adhesion. Steps:

1. Dip a food-safe brush in pure water or a light syrup

2. Wring the brush well on the edge of the glass to keep only residual moisture

3. Pass the brush on the back of the sheet (not on the printed side), just to make it slightly sticky

4. Apply immediately on the cake, gently smooth with your fingers

If you see the print smudging or the color diluting, it means you applied too much moisture. Work with an almost dry brush to ensure a perfect finish.

What image quality should be used for printing?

To fully exploit the smooth Azucren surface and achieve a photo-realistic rendering, use:

Minimum resolution 300 DPI, ideally 600 DPI for portraits and detailed photos

High-quality JPG or PNG format, avoid heavily compressed images from low-end mobile screens

CMYK mode preferred (not RGB) for better matching with edible printer inks

Standard sRGB color space if you work in RGB

Slightly increased contrast before printing to compensate for the slight color fading on edible media

Good source image quality ensures maximum print quality; even the best sheet cannot compensate for a pixelated source image.

Are the printed colors true to the screen?

Very faithful thanks to the smooth and glossy Azucren surface, but with some differences inherent to the edible medium:

Colors are generally slightly softer than on a backlit screen (a normal effect on any printed medium).

Some very bright colors (neon red, fluorescent green) may appear slightly muted.

Pure white is not printable (food inks do not include opaque white); it comes from the natural whiteness of the sugar sheet.

For orders with strong color requirements (company logos with precise colors), do a test print on one sheet before producing the full order to validate the result and adjust print settings if needed.

Can the sheet be cut before or after printing?

Both are possible depending on your method:

Cutting BEFORE printing, more difficult in practice because sheets cut into complex shapes feed less well through printer rollers (risk of jamming)

Cutting AFTER printing, the recommended standard method. First print the entire A4 sheet with your layout (multiple photos, visible cutting lines), then cut with scissors or a precision cutter following the outlines. This method is used by 99% of cake designers.

Tip: add fine cutting lines (in light gray so they remain discreet) on your print file to facilitate precise cutting of individual photos.

What type of activity is the set of 25 sheets suitable for?

The set of 25 A4 sheets from Azucren is calibrated for:

Pastry chefs active in custom printing, several orders per month with personalized photos

Custom cake designers, regular creations with photo or logo personalization

Event catering with regular corporate requests for company cakes

Shop pastries offering the "custom photo" option as an added service

For occasional or test use, smaller batches are also available. For very large volumes (industrial production), larger batches exist in the range.

How long before the event should you print?

Ideally, print the sugar sheets on the same day as the order or at the earliest the day before. A freshly printed sheet gives the best visual result. If you print in advance (more than 48 hours), store the printed sheets in a dry place away from light, in a tightly sealed food-grade plastic pouch. Final placement on the cake should be 2 to 3 hours maximum before serving as explained in the application tips.
