Marvelous Mold - Moroccan Lattice Onlay

Raised Moroccan zellige-style lattice

The Moroccan Lattice Onlay silicone mold by Marvelous Molds creates a geometric lattice pattern inspired by Moroccan zellige tiles. Unlike a Simpress mold, an onlay is applied flat directly to an already smooth surface, without needing to cover an entire tier.

It can be used with sugar paste, marzipan, fondant, gum paste, or tempered chocolate, and is particularly suited to oriental-themed wedding cakes or creations in a gold and deep-blue palette.

Features

  • Brand: Marvelous Molds (United States)
  • Type: Food-grade silicone onlay mold
  • Material: Flexible food-grade silicone
  • Pattern dimensions: 17.25 cm x 10.16 cm
  • Heat resistance: up to 200°C
  • Compatibility: sugar paste, marzipan, fondant, gum paste, tempered chocolate
  • Origin: made in the United States

Usage tips

  • Paste thickness: roll the paste to approximately 3 mm for a well-defined lattice relief
  • Pressing: press the paste flat into the mold with an even motion, without applying excessive pressure to the edges
  • Demolding: turn the mold over onto a flat surface and flex the silicone to release the pattern in one piece
  • Application: apply the resulting plaque directly to the cake surface, which should already be covered with smooth sugar paste, lightly moistening the contact area
  • Finishing: allow it to set for 30 to 60 minutes before adding gold or metallic color with a dry brush

Please note

Clean with warm, soapy water, rinse, and air-dry; dishwasher-safe on the upper rack. Store flat, away from direct heat and sharp objects.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an Onlay mold and a Simpress mold?

An onlay is applied flat to an already smooth surface, like an added decorative plaque, whereas a Simpress is pressed directly onto the paste to texture an entire tier.

What paste thickness gives the best relief for this pattern?

A thickness of approximately 3 mm produces a well-defined lattice without making the plaque fragile during demolding.

Is this mold suitable for an oriental-themed wedding cake?

Yes, this is one of its main uses: the Moroccan lattice pattern works particularly well in a gold or cobalt-blue palette on oriental-themed creations.
