Wilton - Brown Gel Food Coloring

Brown Gel Food Coloring

Concentrated brown shade for fondant, icing, and buttercream

Wilton Brown Gel Food Coloring lets you precisely adjust the intensity of the shade, from pastel to deep tones, without making the mixture watery. This composite brown reproduces the wood, chocolate, and golden sand tones sought in animal-themed or rustic cake design.

Recommended uses

  • Fondant and marzipan: knead for 5 to 8 minutes, then let rest for 30 to 60 minutes for the final shade
  • Buttercream and royal icing: incorporate at the end of whipping, for 2 minutes at medium speed
  • Perfect for tree trunks, a fondant bear, or an edible woven basket
  • It can also be diluted in a little water for airbrushing or painting on dried fondant

Measure with the tip of a toothpick and incorporate gradually: the shade generally darkens after resting for 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the medium. This coloring contains one or more azo dyes (see composition above). In accordance with European regulations, their consumption may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.

Frequently asked questions

How much coloring is needed for a pastel shade?
A toothpick tipful for 500 g of fondant or buttercream is generally enough for a pastel shade; increase gradually for a more intense color.

Is this gel food coloring suitable for chocolate?
No, this gel is formulated for water-based or emulsified fat-based preparations (fondant, icing, buttercream). For chocolate, use an oil-soluble coloring instead.

Can this brown replace real melted chocolate to tint a cream?
It colors any white or light-colored medium chocolate brown, but adds neither flavor nor fat: use it with preparations that are already flavored if needed.
