Vertical fluting inspired by Greek columns, in Simpress, for an architectural-looking cake.
The Marvelous Molds Fluted Simpress mold imprints vertical fluting in a single press, creating an architectural look inspired by a Greek column. Made from flexible food-grade silicone in the United States, it is pressed onto a sheet of fondant, marzipan, or sugar paste already placed on the cake.

Instructions for use
- Roll out the sugar paste or marzipan into an even sheet 3 to 4 mm thick and place it on the cake, which should already be covered.
- Apply the mold to the still-flexible sheet and press firmly, by hand or with a rolling pin, to transfer the pattern across the entire surface in a single pass.
- Lift the mold from one edge without sliding the paste sheet, so you do not crush the relief.
- Trim the edges with a pastry wheel once the pattern has been imprinted, before the paste dries.
Note. Press the mold straight down so the fluting remains perfectly vertical along the entire height of the tier. Clean the mold with warm, soapy water, rinse, and leave to air-dry. It is also dishwasher-safe on the top rack at a moderate temperature.

Which direction should I apply the mold to the cake?
Always follow the vertical direction of the fluting to reproduce the column effect; applying it horizontally would undermine the spirit of the pattern.
Is this pattern suitable for an already textured cake?
No, it works best on a smooth, understated surface. On an already textured base, the fluting will not stand out clearly.
What finish enhances the Greek column effect?
Once the paste has dried, dry-brushing gold or pearlescent ivory powder over the tops of the flutes enhances the architectural relief.
