Colour Mill Taupe is a concentrated oil-soluble food coloring, packaged in a 20 ml dropper bottle. Its oil-based formula blends directly into chocolate, cocoa butter, ganaches, and high-fat creams without causing the mixture to seize. The Taupe shade produces a very neutral grayish brown, cooler than Nude and Latte.

Please note: this coloring is oil-soluble and does not dissolve in water-based preparations (royal icing, syrup). Shake the bottle before use and add the color gradually: it is easier to darken a shade that is too light than to lighten a base that is already too intense. Store away from light and heat, with the bottle tightly closed.

Is the 20 ml bottle enough for a whole cake?

As the coloring is highly concentrated, a few drops are enough to tint a substantial amount of preparation: a 20 ml bottle of Taupe will generally color several batches of chocolate, ganache, or buttercream.

How can I achieve a more pastel version of the Taupe shade?

Gradually dilute it in white chocolate or a neutral base by adding the coloring drop by drop: Taupe intensifies quickly, so it is better to start with a small amount and darken it than the other way around.

Does the shade withstand oven baking?

Taupe is primarily intended for preparations that are not baked after coloring (chocolate, ganache, icing, buttercream). In a mixture baked in the oven, the shade may fade slightly depending on the temperature and baking time.
