Colour Mill
Color activator - Colour Mill Booster
Color activator to enhance Colour Mill colorants, available in 20 ml and 100 ml
The Colour Mill Booster Activator is a transparent additive that multiplies the intensity of other Colour Mill colorants. Added at 1 drop per 3 to 4 drops of colorant, it allows you to achieve bright and saturated shades faster, without altering the texture of the preparation.
Like the rest of the Colour Mill range, the Booster is designed for fat-based bases (white chocolate, ganache, buttercream, fondant). It comes in a flexible dropper bottle in 20 ml format for occasional use, or 100 ml for regular boutique pastry production.

Instructions for use
- Base preparation: temper the fat base (white chocolate, ganache, buttercream) to 25-30°C. Above 35°C, some pigments may lose intensity.
- Initial dosage: shake the bottle for 10 seconds. Add 2 to 4 drops for 250 g of preparation for pastel shades, 6 to 10 drops for vibrant shades, 15 to 25 drops for dark shades.
- Mixing: whisk with a stand mixer or silicone spatula for 30 to 60 seconds to evenly distribute the color.
- Rest and stabilization: let rest for 30 minutes at room temperature under cling film in contact. The shade develops and fully reveals itself during rest.
- Possible adjustment: if the shade is too pale, add 1 to 3 additional drops and remix. Proceed in increments to avoid saturation.

Patissland Tip - Booster
Booster is not a dye: it is a transparent activator that multiplies the intensity of other Colour Mill dyes. Add 1 drop of Booster for every 3-4 drops of dye to achieve vibrant shades faster. Especially effective on reds, fuchsia, hot pink, and blacks which normally require a lot of product. Real savings for production shops.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 20 ml and 100 ml?
The 20 ml size is intended for occasional use (30 to 50 colored preparations in total). The 100 ml is designed for boutique bakeries with regular production (more than 5 colored orders per week). At equal volume, the 100 ml is about 35% cheaper per milliliter.
How many drops for 250 g of buttercream?
For pastel shades: 2 to 4 drops. For bright shades: 5 to 10 drops. For dark shades: 12 to 20 drops. Always start with less and adjust gradually; it’s easier to intensify than to lighten.
Does the Colour Mill colorant withstand baking?
Yes, Colour Mill is one of the few liposoluble colorants that retains its intensity after baking in the oven up to 180°C. This property distinguishes it from classic liquid colorants that lighten in the oven.
Can Colour Mill be used on water-based bases (royal icing, syrup)?
No, Colour Mill liposoluble is designed for fat-based bases: melted chocolate, ganache, buttercream, sugar paste. For water-based bases, use the Colour Mill hydrosoluble range.
Does the bottle have a built-in dropper?
Yes, the Colour Mill 20 ml and 100 ml bottles have a built-in dropper opening in the soft cap. A simple press on the bottle delivers a precise drop.
