All About Black Gel Coloring (Tips & Tricks)
Why does my black sometimes look dark gray or purple? Black is the most difficult color to achieve. For a perfect result, we recommend coloring your base (fondant or cream) 24 hours in advance. Black pigments need time to oxidize and reveal their full depth. If you start with a base already chocolate-flavored (with cocoa), you will get an intense black much faster and with less coloring.
Will the coloring stain the mouth or change the taste of my cake? Thanks to its high concentration, you use very little product, minimizing the impact on taste. However, like any intense black coloring, it may temporarily color the tongue. To limit this effect, favor coloring small amounts of decorations or use an airbrush for surface coloring.
How to properly store my tube after opening? Make sure to clean the tube’s tip after each use to prevent the gel from drying and clogging the opening. Screw the cap on tightly and store the tube at room temperature, away from direct light, to preserve pigment stability.
