Cute, cuter, cutest. This cake is clearly our vision of kawaii with lots of adorableness. This cake is a true masterpiece, made with all sorts of pastel-colored fondant and many kawaii figurines. It's almost too adorable to eat, but believe us. You can't resist. It's a true kawaii work of art.

Steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (convection oven 160°C) and grease the pans with FunCakes release spray.

  2. Prepare 200 g FunCakes Buttercream Mix as indicated on the package. Flavor the cream with the flavor paste.

  3. Prepare 330 g FunCakes Deluxe Sponge Cake Mix as indicated on the package. Fill the 20 cm pan 2/3 full with batter, put the rest in the larger pan. Bake the cake about 30-35 minutes then let cool on a rack.

  4. Cut the 20 cm sponge into 2 layers using the leveler and cut the other cake in two. Fill and spread all around with buttercream then let firm up in the refrigerator.

  5. Knead 500 g FunCakes Pastel Green fondant and 500 g FunCakes Pastel Pink fondant until smooth, roll out about 2-3 mm thick and cover both cakes.

  6. Color the Pastel Green fondant darker with FunCakes Bright Green food coloring gel. Roll out very thinly and use the multiple ribbon cutter to make a long strip about 1.5 cm wide. With the FMM grass border cutter from the tappit set, create a long grass border matching the cake size and stick it on using a little edible glue.

  7. Insert 4 dowels into the center of the cake and cut to correct length. Place the smaller cake on these dowels with a cake board underneath.

  8. Knead the 250 g FunCakes Pastel Yellow fondant and 250 g FunCakes Pastel Lilac fondant, roll out thinly. Using the multiple ribbon cutter, make strips about 1.5 cm wide and stick them alternating around the cake. Do not let the strips reach the top.

  9. With a little Pastel Yellow fondant, make a border using the Katy Sue Cake System Mold Rope Border, then gently dust it with a soft brush using FunCakes Golden Ginger sparkle dust. Stick this border above the lilac and yellow strips with edible glue.

  10. Roll out all fondant colors (except white) thinly and cut out pennants with the FMM Bunting Cutters Set/3. Let air dry for a while. Meanwhile, knead the white fondant with some shortening until smooth and put it into the extruder with the small hole disc to make some long strips.

  11. Arrange the wavy white strips on the top cake and stick them here and there with some edible glue. Stick the pennants to these strips.

  12. Create various kawaii figurines, such as animals or fruits. Want to know more about how to model these kawaii figurines? Visit our blog How to: model kawaii figurines.
