Marvelous Mold - Damask Pattern Onlay
Raised damask pattern, inspired by Baroque wallpaper, as an onlay to apply to a cake tier.
The Marvelous Molds Damask Pattern Onlay mold creates a raised damask pattern inspired by the wallpaper in Baroque salons. Made in the United States from flexible, food-grade silicone, the sheet can be used with sugar paste, almond paste, fondant, or gum paste, then cut out and applied to a cake tier.
Features
Instructions for use
- Press a piece of sugar paste or almond paste into the mold to capture the raised pattern.
- Unmold, then cut out the desired shape with a pastry wheel or knife, following the contours of the relief.
- Slightly moisten the back of the piece and apply it to the cake or relevant tier.
- Press the edges smooth by hand for a seamless transition with the base paste.
Note. Firmly work the paste into the finest recesses of the pattern before unmolding so the damask detail comes out sharp. Clean the mold with warm, soapy water, rinse, and air-dry. It is also dishwasher-safe on the top rack at a moderate temperature.
Frequently asked questions
What effect does this pattern create once applied to the cake?
A wallpaper effect reminiscent of a Baroque salon, especially striking in monochrome, such as white damask on a white background.
Is this pattern suitable for a contemporary cake?
It is better suited to ornate cakes in a Baroque or Versailles style; on a sleek, contemporary cake, it may look out of place.
How can several damask pattern sheets be joined without a visible break?
Align the sheets according to the repeating pattern before cutting, then smooth the join by hand once the pieces are in place.
