Is this 3 mm board suitable for a tiered cake?
For light to medium-weight tiered cakes, yes: it serves as an intermediate board between each tier. For the base of a heavy tiered cake or wedding cake, a thicker support such as a Cake Drum is still preferable.
How do you choose the right diameter?
The rule is to choose a board 2 to 4 cm wider than the cake, so you can handle it without touching the icing and leave room for decoration. Sizes from 17.5 to 22.5 cm are the most versatile for a family-sized entremet serving 6 to 8.
Can you cut the cake directly on the board?
You can use a spatula or a smooth knife. A sharp serrated knife may scratch the silver coating and compromise future reuse.
